It’s not quite summer yet here in Brussels, but elsewhere, the warmth of the spring has started. So we though it was time to give you some inspiration on where to go for picnics in Europe (and beyond).
n° 10: Denmark, Falsled Kro
Originally a simple inn, now a rather grand and luxurious destination for lovers of fine food. The beautiful garden doubles up as a huge vegetable plot, so it’s ideal to put down your checkered blanket and munch away between the carrots and dill.
Assensvej 513 5642 Millinge, Denmark
n° 9: Belgium, Flagey and Ixelles ponds
A fabulous art deco building with some wonderful lakes in front. Café Belga can provide the necessary food and of course great Belgian beers. Maybe wait a week or so to get some rays of sun though.
n° 8: Mallorca, Botanical Garden
Lush, green and exotic, a wonderful spot for a cool and shaded lunch. The marvellous garden consists of a majority of Balearic wild flowers and other exotics. As a welcome refreshment, get your glass of freshly squeezed juice from the local citrus trees. Afterwards continue to the centre of Soller for a cortado.
Fundació Jardí Botànic de Sóller, Apartat de Correus 44 , E-07100 Sóller (Mallorca)
n° 7: Santiago de Compostela, Parador
A 14th century hospital turned into one of the most prestigious hotel in Spain, if not in Europe. Castle-like surroundings with a cloister feel, the ultimate stop for all the pilgrims doing the Santiago walk. So get your packed lunch out and eat in front of the Parador and in front of the world-famous cathedral. A world Heritage site, of course.
