End of Belgian hop shoots?

Just read in the news that De Lovie is going to stop their cultivation of hop shoots.

Western Flanders (and more specifically around Poperinge) has been the centre of the best produce for years. Attempts to get it accepted as a ‘Flemish regional product of significance’ hasn’t been successfull so far and now one the last remaining producers has decided to stop all together.

Last year in December the first kilo of shoots to reach the auction fetched a hefty 995€ per kilo! So it seems their is demand for it?
