A chinese twist on thai food?

It seems that a lot of Thai restaurants in Europe are actually run by Chinese.
As such this isn’t a problem, as long as the food stays authentic.
However the food they serve tends to be a watered down version of the ‘original’ thai recipe. Apparently a large proportion of Europeans prefer the spicy Thai flavors rather than the often blander Chinese tastes. So Chinese restauranteurs are forced to incorporate ‘foreign’ dishes, however using the chinese ingredients they don’t come close to the original.
It’s true than also in Brussels a lot of Chinese restaurants and take-away are selling all sorts of asian food, Thai, Indonesian etc. So the famous ‘red thai curry’ becomes a very thin and uninteresting bland concoction of pseudo Thai-ness mixed in with some mono sodium glutamate …
Has anyone had the same experience?
